In Memory of..
Not all of our efforts are successful. Following are a few of those stories.
Dally was a retired running horse. He came to Begin Again Farms on July 17, 2006. He had broken ears from tick bites that had not been treated right away. He was somewhere in his late twenties. He loved kids and had a big heart and a lot of spirit. He suffered from Cushing's disease. He lost his battle on Oct 30, 2007. Dally is still remembered by all the kids at the barn.
Shadow came to Begin Again Farms in mid may of 2007. He came in with his companion Red Cloud. We discovered on his first day that he was blind in his left eye which had a tumor inside the eyelid. In his short months with us, he suffered a stroke cause by the tumor. With the help of the local vets, we were able to make is last few months happy and comfortable. He lost his battle on Oct 30, 2007. Gone but not forgotten.
Mr. Rebble was a 35 year old arab/walker. He had been with us for many years. He finally just couldn’t get his body up and down any longer and the decision had to be made to stop his suffering. We all miss him very much and think of him often. He and Tony Pony are buried next to one another.
TONY PONY
Tony pony was a little white Shetland pony. He came to Begin Again with severe chronic founder. WE tried everything we could to give him a better quality of life. Unfortunately we were unable to change his condition. The only thing we were able to do was to make him as comfortable as possible and love him dearly. He was a favorite of all the children that visit our farm. He had one blue eye and one brown eye. He loved to be brushed and pampered. He wore little blue tennis shoes on his front feet. He passed away this February. Many tears were shed but we know he is out of pain and finally running the way he has wanted to for years.
BO KNOWS
Bo was a big beautiful black, Percheron/Thoroughbred, gelding. He came to us from Kentucky for retirement. His owner, a lovely young lady, thought enough of him to send him to a warm climate to live out his days in comfort surrounded by loving friends. And Bo did become everyone’s best friend. When he first arrived the children where terrified of him because of his size. It didn’t take long before they never even saw how large he was and all their fears disappeared. He was a very trustworthy soul and would never harm anyone. We will grieve for him for a long time.
ANGEL
Angel was a lovely bay Arabian mare. She spent some wonderful time with the children at the farm. She was very good with them in every way. Unfortunately she had many tumors that caused her to colic on us several times before she past away. She had the opportunity to show children and adults many miracles while she was alive. We will not forget that lovely lady.
HUMBEE
Humbee was the strangest addition to come to our farm since we have been here. He was a wonderful fuzzy and funny Llama. He was quite the character and loved so very dearly. I don’t think we will ever get over the loss of this Llama boy. We didn’t think we could ever become so attached to this goofy guy. But just thinking of him as I write this makes tears stream down my face. I remember when he has given to us as a gift, thinking what we are going to do with this thing. None of us knew anything about llamas. He came with a cart and harness. He was supposed to pull the cart. We put the harness on him and he promptly proceeded to leap into the air then throw him self onto the ground and roll his eyes into the back of his head. We thought we had just killed him and took the harness off as quickly as possible. Then we found out he was just faking it. We decided we would be pulling the cart long before Humbee. He finally became our best buddy when we gave him a hair cut and a bath. After that you could often feel soft llama lips on the back of your neck. I will personally never recover from losing Humbee. He will forever be missed at Begin Again Farms.
OKIE
Okie was a bay Quarter horse gelding. Okie suffered from chronic severe founder. He was always getting into things. He was somewhat the loner. I believe that was because of the pain that was always with him. We buried him and Humbee together. We tried many ways to make Okie more comfortable with out success. It was finally just the kindest thing to let him go.
GAYMEL
Gaymel was a beautiful chestnut Arabian mare. What a special horse she was. She taught many children and adults to ride. She gave kisses to everyone. She was spunky and very stoic up until the day she died. To the best of our knowledge she was approximately 30 years old when she died. Never have I met a horse with more heart and love to give than Gaymel. She changed lives and found her way into many people’s hearts. She will be remembered and sorely missed for a long, long time to come.
